A rematch of the 2004 World Series, where St. Louis was swept by Boston to end the curse, saw the Cardinals put up more of fight this time around. Unfortunately for them, the end result was the same. Led by Big Papi, who hit .688 in the World Series, Boston was able to capture their 3rd championship of the century.

1.) Chris Davis, Baltimore Orioles: 53 Home Runs and 138 RBIs

Chris Davis had a few really strong seasons, but what he managed to do in 2013 would get him a major payday. His batting average, which was .286, was incredible considering that he would never be able to replicate that again. His 2013 season was actually his lone All-Star appearance in his 13-year career. While it is hard to argue that “Crush” did not live up to the money, the offensive production that he displayed in 2013 was undeniable.

2.) Mariano Rivera, New York Yankees: 44 Saves and 2.11 ERA at age 43

The “Sandman”, who is the all-time saves leader in baseball history, ended his career on a high note in 2013. The Hall of Famer managed to only have an ERA higher than 3.00 on one singular occasion after he became a full-time reliever in 1997. When people think of a “Cutter” they think of Mariano, which is very impressive to have a pitch that is synonymous with one player. Mo racked up 13 All-Star appearances and 5 Reliever of the Year awards, while saving 652 games.

3.) Evan Gattis, Atlanta Braves: .600 Batting Average Pinch-Hitting

In 10 pinch-hit at bats during the 2013 regular season, Gattis was the most efficient hitter in baseball. He managed to reach base 6 times and hit 4 home runs! It was more likely that Gattis would reach base than not, with a 40% chance that he would hit one out. He also managed to drive in 11 runs, which in pinch-hit moments, are often the most important opportunities, late in the game.
