There is nothing like placing a crazy bet in the heat of summer that you need to wait until Valentine’s Day to cash. Or in my case, often forget about because my bet lost all hope by Halloween.

Below are 3 interesting bets to consider prior to the NFL Season starting in September.

  1. Most Passing Yards- Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers: +4000 or 40 to 1

Herbert has had success in his healthy seasons in the NFL, eclipsing 5,000 passing yards once, while just missing that benchmark on two other occasions. Now being paired with John Harbaugh, Herbert may be able to take that next step. It will not come without its challenges, as Herbert has lost his two best and most consistent Wide Receivers in Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, as well as his Pro-Bowl running back Austin Ekeler. What remains is a young receiver core, bustling with talent. Using three of their draft picks, the Chargers selected Ladd McConkey (Georgia), Brendan Rice (USC) and Cornelius Johnson (Michigan). These three receivers can give them some real talent, but it may take some time. If Herbert can get them ready and organized early on, he may be able to make 40-1 an easy bet.

2. Most Receiving Yards- DJ Moore, Chicago Bears: +2000 or 20 to 1

At first glance, there are a lot of reasons to be cautious about this one. A new, rookie quarterback. The addition of a six-time pro-bowl receiver in Keenan Allen, as well as a highly drafted receiver with a lot of promise, also potentially would rob Moore of his ability to lead the league. While these factors make sense, they also, in a way, help his cause. The new, rookie quarterback is also the consensus 1st overall pick in Caleb Williams. As for the addition of the new, talented receivers, this may work in favor as now defenses need to spread themselves to cover all the talent. This was not something that was a concern against an objectively worse bears offense last season, and Moore still had 1300+ receiving yards.

3. Most Valuable Player- Kirk Cousins, Atlanta Falcons: +3500 or 35 to 1

Hear me out. I can already feel the credibility (of which I have none) just evaporate into the air. But why not? It truly felt like this Atlanta offense was missing one piece, which unfortunately was the most important piece. The talent is there with Kyle Pitts, Drake London and new additions Darnell Mooney and Rondale Moore. They have, according to some, a top 5 offensive line. Bijan Robinson, a first-round draft pick in 2023, is a powerful running back, who also caught 4 touchdowns while tacking on nearly 500 receiving yards with subpar quarterback play. Prior to his season ending injury, Cousins was having a really impressive season. What can he do, healthy and surrounded by weapons, in 2024? Maybe MVP for a competitive team.
