Choosing a Home Run Hitter from 3 of Wednesday’s Early Scheduled Games
What a beautiful, full slate of Wednesday baseball in the middle of June! There has been a lot of power this season, led by former American League MVP Aaron Judge, who has 25 homer runs with well over 3 months remaining in the regular season.
Some surprise power bats follow him, with young Orioles’ superstar in the making, Gunnar Henderson, close behind him with 21. Kyle Tucker, who has maxed out at 30 home runs twice in his career, already has 19 bombs for the Houston Astros.
Let’s jump into today’s array of ball games and identify some potential homerun picks.
Colorado Rockies vs Minnesota Twins- Charlie Blackmon, COL
While Blackmon has not had much to show in the power department in 2024 (or really since 2019) he has great numbers over several at bats against Minnesota starter, Pablo Lopez (4-11, .364 BA and 2 RBIS). In addition to that, Blackmon has been on a tear as of late, hitting .429 over his last 7 games. Lopez, on the other hand has struggled all season, posting a 5.45 earned run average, and allowing 13 home runs so far. Of the 13 home runs, 8 have been hit by left-handed batters, which Blackmon is.
DraftKings Sportsbook Charlie Blackmon Home Run Odds: +650 ($10 to pay out $75)
Honorable Mention: Ryan McMahon +600 (Lefty, has 10 home runs this season)
Toronto Blue Jays vs Milwaukee Brewers- Daulton Varsho, TOR
Varsho, who both attended school and was born in Wisconsin, is going to have a nice homecoming gift today. After homering 6-times in April, and 4-times in May, Varsho has not connected with one yet in June. What he has done, however, is hit nearly .300 to raise his overall average to .219 and hitting just .174 in May. Varsho has gotten hits in each of first two games in this series, including a double last night. Who is to say he cannot put it all together while playing in the last game of the series, less than 10 miles from where he went to college?
Draftkings Sportsbook Daulton Varsho Home Run Odds: +425 ($10 to pay out $52.50)
Honorable Mention: Daniel Vogelbach +450 (Former Brewer legend, would make too much sense)
Houston Astros vs San Fransisco Giants- Yordan Alvarez, HOU
One of the most talented, young bats in baseball has caught fire in June, hitting .385 with 4 home runs over the first 11 days of the month. He is, however, running into a talented pitcher in San Fransisco ace Logan Webb. Webb has pitched very well at home, only allowing one home run when pitching at Oracle Park. Alvarez has faced Webb 4 times, logging one hit without striking out. Alvarez has hit 9 of his 13 home runs against right-handed pitchers.
Draftkings Sportsbook Yordan Alvarez Home Run Odds: +550 ($10 to pay out $65.00)
Honorable Mention: Trey Cabbage +850 (Awesome name, hard to bet against)
Parlaying the Six-Pack of Blackmon, McMahon, Varsho, Vogelbach, Alvarez and Cabbage will pay $35,568.00 for each $1 bet. Just putting that out there.
