Golfers with low risk, high reward potential for the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst Golf Course.
Scottie Scheffler has been on a different planet in 2024, winning 5 different tournaments, and finishing top-10 in all but 1 of his 13 appearances. He is the clear-cut favorite, currently listed at +280 to win the U.S. Open, significantly higher than the next best odds of +1000 (10 to 1) for Xander Schauffele.
Often times, especially when betting on big tournaments, you truly do not even need to pick the winner. Sometimes it is simply enough to bet on someone that may get hot out of the gate. If they get off to a solid start, the sportsbook that you use may offer a cash-out option. When betting someone at 50-1 or greater, that can lead to a small bet becoming a fairly decent payout.
Below are three different golfers who are currently listed at 50-1 or higher, heading into the 2024 U.S. Open.
Max Homa – +5000 on Draftkings Sportsbook
Homa has cooled off significantly since his top 3 finish in the Masters this past April, finishing top-10 just once while missing the cut entirely in the Charles Schwab Challenge. That being said, when Homa is on, he can play with pretty much anyone. Homa has historically struggled when participating in the U.S. Open, missing the cut in 4 of his first 5 attempts. At 50-1, and nearly two months removed from his impressive Masters performance, who is to say that Homa cannot get hot and make a run?
Will Zalatoris – +8000 on Draftkings Sportsbook
Zalatoris has finished top-10 three times and has had success in the past at the U.S. Open, finishing tied for 2nd place overall in the 2022 Open at the Country Club in Brookline. After starting decent at the Memorial Tournament last week, Zalatoris struggled mightily in his last two rounds. Similar to Homa, Zalatoris has had multiple instances of bouncing back and playing up to his competition, so at 80-1, he may be worth a look.
Francesco Molinari – +150000 on Draftkings Sportsbook
There has not been a lot of recent success for Molinari, aside from his huge upset win of The Open in 2018. That being said, he has only made two cuts this year, and did not make a competitive run in either of those opportunities. Truth be told, having a win under your belt does show that someone may have the ability in them, and in this crowded field, truly anything is possible. Molinari has made the cut in about 70% of his events and has finished top-10 in a little over 13% of the time. A $1 bet here nets you $1,500.
