José Berríos and 4th place Blue Jays look to get back to an even record.
The Blue Jays certainly would have expected to be in a better position as we inch toward mid-June. Toronto has not missed the post season since 2021, a season where they finished 91-71 in an extremely competitive American League East division. A lot has not gone according to plan North of the Border this season, and they find themselves already 13 games out of their division.
The Brewers have thus far found themselves in a better position than most expected through June. With a sizeable 6.5 game lead over the National League Central, the Brew Crew does not appear to have been impacted by the massive losses of Corbin Burnes (traded to Baltimore), Devin Williams (Injury) and Brandon Woodruff (Injury).
The Brewers have pieced together a pitching staff that many would not have picked to be top 4 in the National League in ERA. Colin Rea and his emergence as a capable arm has been a large part of that.
Tonight’s matchup will come down to how deep each team’s starter can go (which is not a crazy concept). Rea has gone 5 or more innings in 9 of his 12 starts this season, while Berríos has eclipsed 5 innings in 12 of his 13 appearances.
Another interesting part of this matchup is Toronto’s ability to put the ball in play. They currently rank 2nd in the Majors in limiting strikeouts.
